The Posh Standard

Meet Donovan Woodberry, founder of A Celebration of Us and The Posh Standard Media Group. The name derives from the definitions of posh meaning stylish, luxurious, and upper classed, and standard meaning a level off quality that is accepted as normal or average.

The Posh Standard is an innovative movement to unite and elevate the way we as African Americans operate with society as well as amongst each other.

Founder of A Celebration Of Us Gives Back To Community

Born clubfooted, his parents were told that he would never be able to walk.  Both of Donovan’s legs were casted up for the first three years of his life. In fact, it was in those very same casts, did he learn to walk.  From that day on he would tell you that he adopted the mantra, “tragedy to triumph”.  From losing both his parents, to dropping out of college to homelessness.  To a near death experience at Job Corps to getting back in college at the University of Louisville.  He even battled and defeated depression and a suicidal attempt.  He would say that the gas of his misfortunes became the fuel of the flames of his work ethic.

Around about his third year at the University Of Louisville, did he create a blog called; The Posh Standard.  Posh meaning stylish, luxurious, and upper classed. While Standard meaning a level off quality that is accepted as normal or average.  He wanted to create a site that created a new standard of the way we as African Americans operate with society as well as amongst each other.  That later evolved. After college he moved to DC, to expand his help with people that looked like him.  Donovan started hosting networking event and eventually turned his blog into a prominent media group.  He LLC’d it as The Posh Standard Media Group.

An In Depth Interview

  • To me, it means a big deal for our people in the city.  Through this event I can donate to a grant I have started for social worker aspirants.  I am also able to donate to a shelter that helps women transition out of domestic violent situations. The charity is called My Sisters Place. Its like a party with a purpose.  My goal is to create a new way we influencers in the city maneuver.  If we were more connected and moved as a unit, so many people would benefit from our influence and ideas.

  • Yes, I was at DC Now Events; “All Purple Gala”.  I thought to myself, I would love to host something like this to benefit some of the charities that I hold to my heart. The fashion along with the networking while still turning up was a beautiful site to me.

  • The grant is called “Brittnees Spirit.  It is In honor of a queen who passed away last year.  I did not intend on this being a grant. When I started planning the event, I reached out to Brittnee to be a guest of honor. I was going to donate to her fight. I remember her excitement as if it were yesterday.  I am not going to cap like I knew her in depth, but I did meet her in a group Greek chat and remember the day she announced she had cancer on social media.  I was greatly inspired by her spirit and her fight. Due to covid, I had to push the event back.  While we were waiting to see what restriction initially looked like, she passed away.  I feel its only right to celebrate her in this form to help someone in her field achieve their career goals.

  • Engraved in the hearts and minds of people young and old as a catalyst of a motivation to succeed as well as an instrument of unification amongst our people.  I want my work to speak with quality and purpose and inspire others to do the same.  I want to be known for my aspirations of not only us but the world recognizing we people as the kings and queens that we are.
